Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Nazrul Complex beside the Dhaka University (DU) Central Mosque today, the 33rd death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Earlier, the prime minister placed a wreath at the Nazrul mazar (grave) paying reach tribute to the poet.
DU students, teachers and employees, led by Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, also placed wreaths and offered fateha at his mazar in observance of the day.
Meanwhile, BNP leader Khandaker Delwar Hossain visited the poet mazar and paid tributes to him.
Dhaka University authorities have taken a daylong programme to mark the death anniversary of the great poet.
Nazrul, popularly known as Bidrohi Kabi (rebel poet), through his powerful poems had inspired the people to fight against all kinds of bondage and injustice and repression during the colonial rule.
Nazrul's songs and poems were also a great source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the country's liberation war in 1971.
The poet passed away on August 29 (12th Bhadro of Bangla calendar) at the age of 77 after suffering long from a debilitating disease.
