Some peaks of the Himalayas are visible from Thakurgaon where Musa grew up. “I once took him to the Jagaddal Hat of Thakurgaon to show him a peak of the mountain,” said Musa's father Ansar Ali, “Musa was merely a boy of nine years old then, and he was amazed by the view”. “We never heard about his dream of conquering Everest until he completed his university degree,” said the proud father of Musa Ibrahim, the first Bangladeshi Everest conqueror.

Herta Mueller wins Nobel Literature Prize

AFP: Herta Mueller, whose upbringing under Romania's oppressive communist regime inspired poetry and novels, today won the Nobel Literature Prize.
The 56-year-old Romanian-born German national was hailed by the Swedish prize jury as writer who "with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed".

Living Legend of Bangladesh Shah Abdul Karim is no more

Shah Abdul Karim, the living legend and maestro of folk song of Bangladesh, died of old age complications at a Sylhet hospital at the age of 93. Thousands of people from different walks of life paid homage to the legendary folk artist Shah Abdul Karim as his body was taken to Derai upazila for burial.He was buried beside his wife Aftabunnesa Sarala on the premises of his residence.
